Scrappy Tails Crafty Cruise Q&A

Cruise Related FAQs

I plan to add more FAQs as more questions are asked between Violetta and I, so check back often. I will also respond to any questions via email!

Q: Why did we choose to host our crafty cruise with Princess?

A: My family and I have been traveling on cruises for many years. We have traveled on many cruise lines, and Princess, is our personal favorite. Our goal was to host our event on an affordable luxury cruise line geared towards relaxation. Princess is not a party ship, and they cater to more of an older demographic. However, Princess does welcome families and offers activities for children and teens. I also cannot commend how amazing Princess' customer service is. the Princess crew always go above and beyond to make your vacation wonderful. We are also huge fans of their medallion system.

Q:  What is some information you can provide about the Sky Princess?

A: The Sky Princess is a new ship that launched in 2019. It's known for its modern design, amenities and various itineraries to warm weather destinations. The ship has an occupancy around 3,660 passengers and features a range of dining options, entertainment venues, and activities

Q: What makes this particular cruise unique?

A: This cruise only happens 3 times a year. In addition to being an 8 night voyage and not a 7 day one, it also stops at ports that you usually can only visit by taking a 10 day cruise.

Q: How is our crafty cruise different from other crafty cruises?

A: Our crafty cruise contains all Scrappy Tails classes. Unlike other cruises that teach classes with products from various different companies, our cruise is targeted to the ultimate Scrappy Tails crafter. Our cruise is slightly longer than the typical 7 day itinerary allowing us to have 3 sea days as opposed to the normal 2.  Lastly, our cruise is not a cropping style cruise, and has an emphasis on relaxed crafting and teaching new card making techniques. We are also the only crafty cruise currently working with Princess.

Q: Why did we opt to work with Cabin Closeout as our chosen cruise agency?

A: Cabin Closeout has booked numerous cruises for us in the past at phenomenal discounted rates. They work with Princess directly to negotiate the best possible prices for their customers and have been in the business for over 38 years.

Q: Why did we opt to work with Violetta as our chosen cruise agent?

A: She's simply the best. She always finds us the best discounts, is very responsive and works to book the best possible cabins on every ship. She is working tirelessly to book everyone's cabin. Please be patient as she is booking everyone one at a time around the clock.

A: Your cruise fare includes all port charges and taxes. Water, basic juices and black coffee is included. All food is included apart from speciality dining and casual dining restaurants. You can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the main Lido deck buffet.  You can also eat at the Princess' Main Dining room, which is a more formal, 3 course, sit down experience with fantastic food. Also included is your stateroom cabin, onboard entertainment such as trivia, production shows, and cruise hosted games/parties.

A: Add-on items not included in the price include: crew gratuities, travel insurance, crafting participation fee, wifi, transportation, airfare, shore excursions and onboard packages such as specialty dining, and beverages (non-alcoholic, alcoholic, sodas and specialty coffees/teas)

Q: What can you do around the ship during the day?

A: In the Princess App, you will find a full itinerary of what's going on around the ship each day and night. Day time activities typically include trivia, staff hosted games, pool-side games/music, singers and musicians, educational port seminars, cooking demonstrations, spa activities, fitness classes, art auctions, jewelry/shop sales, and so much more! Most of these activities are included in your cruise fare.

Q: What can you do around the ship at night?

A: Night time activities include enjoying dinner at the main dining room or at any of the specialty dining restaurants. There's always LIVE entertainment throughout the ship with singers and musicians. Typically there's one gameshow per night. In addition, the ship has lots of cocktail lounges to relax and enjoy. Every night there's a fabulous production show that may include singers and dancers, comedians, magicians etc. You can attend the production show either at 7 PM or 9 PM each night. The ship has an awesome casino that's open while the ship is at sea. If you're a night owl, there's "movies under the stars" on the Lido deck, as well as night clubs and comedy clubs that you can attend. Most of these activities are included in your cruise fare

Q: Can I place the cabin deposit now, but wait to place the classroom deposit until a later date, or vice versa?

A: No. You must place both deposits down on the same day. This helps us keep track of who is attending our classes. We do have a cap on how many cabins and how many class spots we have available to sell.

Q: Should I book my cabin first or put a deposit down on the classes first?

A: It doesn't matter if you book the cabin or the classes first, just be sure to put the deposits down for both on the same day.

Q: What do I need to bring to each class?

A: Just yourself and your supply bag that we've provided for you. Please do not bring any of your own craft supplies on this cruise, we will include everything you need to complete the projects in your supply bag.

Q: What's included in the basic supply bag?

A: A pair of Cutter Bee scissors, a craft mat, one bottle of Art Glitter glue with a fine tip applicator and a few glue needles, double sided tape, tweezers, a picker upper tool, a bone folder, a white gel pen, a black fine liner, a project storage container, a supply storage container and any other required supplies that may be needed to complete a specific technique (I.e inks, blender tools etc.)

Q: Will we receive all 9 class kits at the beginning of the cruise?

A: No. We will hand out class kits individually in each class to ensure no kits get lost or left inside crafter's cabins.

Q: What is included in each individual class kit?

A: All class kits will be pre die cut with everything you need to assemble the project with your provided supplies. Each kit will also include a free die and written instructions.

Q: Will the classes feature new Scrappy Tails product?

A: Yes, we plan to mainly feature newer Scrappy Tails product. We will not teach any of the classes we have already taught at Scrapbook Expo, CKC or MegaMeet.

Q: What will we be learning in each class?

A: Once our group is established, we plan to send out a survey asking our students what products they'd like to work with, and which techniques they'd like to learn. Based on that information, we will create our classes. Most of the classes will be a pop up card tutorial, but some may be technique driven. We are also open to working on other paper craft projects other than cards such as home decor pieces and/or scrapbook layouts. We will have more specifics once our group is finalized.

Q: How can we safely store our completed projects?

A: We are providing you with a nice plastic Scrappy Tails case to house your finished projects.

Q: How difficult are the classes?

A: Our classes will range in difficulty from beginner to advanced. We want to challenge our students to try some out of the box techniques and work with products you maybe wouldn't have tried out on your own. Our goal is to teach 1 beginner, 1 intermediate and 1 advanced level class per sea day. Please note that any crafter at any level of experience can join, you do not need to be a seasoned crafter to have fun in our classes!

Q: Are the classes kid friendly?

A: Of course! We want everyone at every age to participate. I'll even have my 5 year old niece crafting along with us!

Q: Will the projects be completed in class?

A: Yes! We allotted one two hour class per sea day to ensure that we have nine completed projects by the end of our cruise.

Q: What's included in the Scrappy Tails goodie bag?

A: Your goodie bag will grow as we hand out card kits for each class. Each kit will include a die featured in the class valued at $20 or more. In total, you will go home with $200 worth of Scrappy Tails product.

Q: What if I already have one or multiple dies that's included in the goodie bag?

A: You can swap out any of your dies in your goodie bag if you already have it. Just know that those dies will have to be mailed to you because we are not bringing any physical product with us on the cruise. We ask that you only swap out products that you already have. We do have to order more quantities of the dies we plan to include, so it's best to keep the dies if you don't already have them.

Q: Can I order more Scrappy Tails product on the cruise?

A: Yes! Your classroom goodie bag will include a catalogue of all of our products that you can purchase from us on open water, tax free. My dad will be able to ship out orders while we are sailing, so hopefully your products will arrive to you by the time you get home!

A: Yes, all of our products will be buy 4 get 1 free.

Q: What is the class schedule?

Q: Is there a lunch break between classes?

A: Yes, there's one 55 minute lunch break between classes.

Q: What if I have to miss one or more classes?

A: If you miss out on a class, you can pick up your missing class kits anytime during the cruise and work with them at home or in your cabin.

Q: Where is the classroom located?

A: In the Princess Main dining room.

Q: Is the classroom available 24/7?

A: No. We reserved the classroom space for 5 hours per sea day from 9 AM- 2PM. Everything must be cleaned and removed from the classroom by 2PM each sea day.

Q: How will the classes be taught?

A: I will create the project with you on an overhead projector for you to follow along with me. I will have a microphone on so everyone can hear me well. I also actively walk around the classroom to ensure everyone stays on track.

Q: Can we crop?

A: No, please do not bring any cropping supplies. This is a class only cruise.

Q: Will the cruise take pictures of us in class?

A: Yes, I have requested that a photographer pops into our classroom every once in a while to take photos of everyone crafting. We can also take group photos around the ship together.

Q: Will there be other group related activities to do besides attending classes?

A: Yes, we will have fun contests around the ship, and I'm planning a BINGO session we can do as a group.

Q: Will there be door prizes or giveaways during class?

A: Yes! We plan to do daily door prizes for Scrappy Tails and Princess related products during class sessions.

Q: What is the difference between a guarantee vs. picking your own cabin?

A: A guarantee is a less expensive option where the cruise line picks your cabin for you. You will be placed anywhere on the ship, but the cruise line "guarantees" a specific cabin type that you want. If you're booking an interior or a balcony, you have the option of a guarantee or to pick your own room. Our mini suite options are all guarantees.

Q: How big are the cabins?

A: Interior cabins are 158 sq ft, balconies are 233 sq ft and mini suites are 323 sq ft

Q: What is the difference between a regular balcony cabin and a mini suite?

A: The mini suite is 100 sq ft larger with a pull out couch and sometimes includes a bathtub. Mini suites are really nice if you're traveling with three or four people. Mini suites also have a slightly larger balcony.

Q: What amenities are included in your cabin?

A: Cruise ship cabins are generally small, but very functional. Each cabin has plenty of storage and closet space. All cabins include a small desk, tv, hair dryer, a safe for valuables, mini fridge, and bed side tables. Every cabin has a private bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower/tub.

Q: What are available bed configurations?

A: Beds can be set up as two separate twin beds or as one large queen bed. Bed configurations can be requested at time of booking or requested from your room steward at time of embarkation.

Q: Does Princess provide cabin turn down service?

A: The rooms are serviced twice a day, which includes a turn down service at night.

Q: Are balcony cabins worth it?

A: Balcony cabins, mini suites and suites include a balcony with safety glass to ensure a maximum viewing experience. Most balconies include a small table and two chairs. Mini suites and suites may include reclining chairs or loungers. Balconies are usually partially or fully covered from the sun. Note that some balconies maybe obstructed (please check Deck Plans before picking your balcony cabin.)

Q: Are there rooms that accommodate more than two passengers?

A: There are a very limited number of cabins on the ship with a third or fourth bed. Some of those beds come out of the ceiling as a bunk bed or have a couch that converts into a bed.

Q: Is there a discounted rate for a third and fourth passenger residing in the same cabin?

A: Violetta can offer a discounted price for third and fourth passenger.

Q: Can I book an accessible cabin?

A: Currently there are no more accessible cabins available.

Q: What is the difference between the Princess Plus and Premier packages? Is this an additional cost?

A: Both packages include wifi, gratuities and a drink package. Each one has some other perks listed in the "Princess Plus & Premier packages" section of my most recent blog.  The Princess premier costs more, but has some additional benefits that the plus does not have.

Q: How much does it cost to add the Princess Plus or the Premier package?

A: Discounts on these packages are based on the cabin that you book. Higher discounts are given to balconies and mini suites. Violetta will be able to give you a cost for both packages when you book your cruise. Note: Packages are based on double occupancy

Q: Do you recommend the Princess Plus or the Premiere package?

A: I personally always purchase the plus package. Most cocktails onboard are less than $15 and qualify for the plus package. If you love higher priced whiskeys and wine, the premier package might be a better choice for you. If you also love specialty dining, the premiere package offers unlimited specialty dining restaurants.

Q: What is the Princess Medallion?

A: The Princess Medallion is a wearable device, resembling a small disc, used by Princess Cruises to personalize and enhance the guest experience.  It serves as a key to cabins, a charge card, and enables various other functions like ordering food and drinks anywhere on the ship. You can also find your fellow ship mates with it.

Q: What is the Princess App?

A: I highly recommend downloading the Princess App after you book your cruise. The app has a countdown leading up to the cruise. It's also a convenient way to book dining reservations, book shore excursions, order room service, order food and drinks around the ship and see what's going on around the ship at any given time.

Q: How do I purchase products and services on the ship?

A: Through your medallion. This is a cashless ship so you will link your credit card to your Medallion before embarkation.

Q: Should I bring cash with me?

A: Cash is nice to have for shore excursion tips and at the casino. Otherwise, everything onboard is cashless.

Q: Do I need to bring Caribbean currency?

A: No, every island accepts US dollars.

Q: Are shore excursions included?

A: No, these can be booked through Princess or through a third party.

Q: Do you recommend booking shore excursions through Princess or a third party?

A: I sometimes book excursions through the cruise line if its a longer tour. ( 6-8 hours long) If you book a shore excursion through Princess, they will never leave port without you. If you book through a third party, it's important to be back on the ship before it's scheduled to leave. They will leave you if you book a private excursion. Generally, you save money booking with a third party.

Q: Are photos included?

A: No, individual photos and photo packages can be purchased on the ship. If you have the Princess Premiere package, you will receive a complimentary digital photo package.

Q: How much are daily gratuities?

A: Suite guests pay $19 pp/per day. Cabana and mini suite guests pay $18 pp/ per day. All other cabins pay $17 pp/ per day. Gratuities are included if you have the Princess Plus or Premiere package.

Q: How are gratuities disbursed?

A: Gratuities are shared across all service personnel from room stewards, to dining room crew and other service personnel that work behind the scenes.

Q: Is there a mandatory gratuity bar charge?

A: Yes, if you do not have the Princess Plus or Premier package, Princess automatically adds an 18% mandatory bar charge to all of your orders.

Q: Can I adjust/remove gratuities?

A: Gratuities are automatically added nightly to your stateroom account unless you have an onboard Princess package. You can visit the guest relations desk before the end of your cruise to adjust the gratuity charges or have them manually removed. Please note that this impacts the wonderful staff on board. Gratuities cannot be removed if you have the plus/premiere package.

Q: Can I give additional tips to my favorite Princess crew members?

A: Absolutely. It is completely discretionary, but you'll find the staff onboard to be amazingly helpful kind people. Cash tips are best and tip envelopes can be requested at the guest relations counter in the ship's lobby.

Q: Is airfare included?

A: No, this will have to be booked on your own separately.

Q: What is EZair Princess?

A: You can book your flights through EZair Princess. They will take care of all of your travel needs in one convenient place. EZair’s personalized suggestions help you to arrive at the right time and place to start your cruise experience seamlessly. They can also arrange transfers to and from the airport.

Q: Do you recommend EZair Princess?

A: I always recommend to compare flight costs across multiple platforms such as Expedia, EZair Princess, and Kayak to save money. It is of course a more convenient option, and is nice because you can fly the same day of the cruise. If you book your flight through EZair, the ship will not leave Port Canaveral without you.

Q: How can I book a flight through EZair Princess?

A: Click HERE to get started comparing your flight options with EZair Princess.

Q: What is the best airport to fly into?

A: The best airport to fly into would be Orlando International (MCO), which is approximately 45 miles to the Port Canaveral cruise terminal (a 45-60 minute transfer). Alternatively, you can fly into Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach airports.

Q: Do you recommend flying in the day before the cruise?

A: Yes. Flight delays and cancellations always occur. It's a good idea to arrive a day prior to the cruise embarking.

Q: Is a hotel stay the night before the cruise included?

A: No, you will have to book your own hotel. I suggest Kayak or Expedia to find deals on hotel stays in the Port Canaveral area.

Q: Are transfers to and from the airport included?

A: No, you will have to arrange transfer services to and from the airport. Princess offers ground transportation transfers from Orlando airport to the cruise terminal for $38 per person, one way. They also will handle luggage all the way to your cabin.

Q: What is the Princess Main Dining room?

A: The Princess Main Dining room is where we will host our classes, but also where you go to eat dinner. A small portion of the dining room is open for breakfast and lunch. It's a formal, sit down setting with a designated waiter that we will have every night of the cruise. Each night has a different menu usually featuring food from the different ports of call that we visit. It is a standard three course meal. The food is great!

Q: What is early group dining? Do I have to attend?

A: We reserved early dining for our group in the Princess main dining room. (5:00 pm) Every guest in our group is welcome to attend. It's a fun way to enjoy the amazing food together and socialize outside of the classroom! It is however completely optional.

Q: Is there a way I can view the main dining room menu before dining there?

A: Yes, menus are posted in front of the main dining room every morning for lunch and dinner. You can also view the menu on the Princess App or on your cabin's TV.

Q: What is the dress code for dinner in the main dining room?

A: The dress code for dinner in the main dining room is smart casual. Dresses or pants with a nice shirt/blouse are great options. Princess isn't as strict as other cruise lines are when it comes to dress code just don't wear flip flops or spaghetti straps.

Q: What is the dress code at the buffet?

A: The dress code at the buffet is always casual, even for dinner.

Q: What are formal nights? Do I have to participate?

A: This cruise has two formal nights. You will be notified by your cabin steward the night before. It's also disclosed in the ship itinerary in the Princess App. It's a night where everyone dresses up in formal attire and can take photos around the ship. Guests can also enjoy the Captains Champagne pour during one of the formal nights. You can get a free glass of champagne by joining the event. It is completely optional to participate and dress up for formal night.

Q: Are there specific times when breakfast, lunch and dinner are served?

A: Breakfast and lunch have a shorter time frame in the main dining room. The buffet however is always open throughout the day. The buffet is open from 5:30 AM- 11:30 PM.

Q: What is the International Cafe?

A: The International cafe is a 24 hour cafe near the Piazza. The cafe offers premium coffees, pastries, small sandwiches and finger foods. This cafe is included in your cruise fare. I love the international cafe during port days, its a quick way to grab a bite to eat. It's also a great place for a midnight snack.

Q: What is the Salty Dog Grill?

A: The Salty Dog grill is located on the Lido deck, and offers hotdogs, burgers and tacos. This grill is included in your cruise fare.

Q: What is Slice and Swirl?

A: Slice is a quick service pizza joint located on the lido deck. Swirl is a quick service soft serve ice cream area located on the lido deck. Slice and Swirl are both included in your cruise fare.

Q: What is "casual" and "specialty" dining?

A: Casual dining includes restaurants on the ship that don't have a dress code. They have a small up charge for passengers without an onboard package. Specialty dining includes restaurants on the ship that do have a smart casual dress code and feature more upscale menus. They have an up charge for passengers without an onboard package and for passengers with the plus package.

Q: What is Alfredo's Pizza?

A: Alfredo's Pizza is considered a "casual dining" restaurant. It does have a small up charge ($14.99 per adult, $7.49 per child), unless you have the Princess Plus or Premiere packages. If you have the plus package, you can dine there twice during your cruise voyage. If you have the premiere package, you can dine there as many times as you'd like. Included is a three course Italian meal.

Q: What is the Ocean Terrace Seafood bar?

A: The Ocean Terrace Seafood bar is considered a "casual dining" restaurant. it does have an up charge ($14.95 per person) unless you have the Princess Plus or Premiere packages. If you have the plus package, you can dine there twice during your cruise voyage. If you have the premiere package, you can dine there as many times as you'd like. Included is a set menu of sushi options

Q: What is the Crown Grill?

A: The Crown Grill is considered a "specialty dining" restaurant. It does have an up charge ($39 per person) unless you have the Princess Premiere package. If you have the premiere package, you can dine there as many times as you'd like. Included is a three course steak/seafood meal.

Q: What is Sabatinis?

A: Sabatinis is considered a "specialty dining" restaurant. It does have an up charge ($35 per person) unless you have the Princess Premiere package. If you have the premiere package, you can dine there as many times as you'd like. Included is a three course Italian meal.

Q: What is the Catch by Rudi?

A: The Catch is considered a "specialty dining" restaurant. It does have an up charge ($45 per person) unless you have the Princess Premiere package. If you have the premiere package, you can dine there as many times as you'd like. Included is a three course seafood inspired meal. The menu for this restaurant was developed by highly renowned chef Rudi Sodamin, head of the Princess culinary program.

Q: Do you recommend dining at any of the casual or specialty dining restaurants? Which ones specifically?

A: Yes, I typically do 2 or 3 nights of specialty dining. Its always nice to splurge on fantastic food. All of these restaurants are a unique dining experience that include three courses. You get a lot of food for your money. They are all equally fabulous. You should choose the restaurants you want to dine at based on what you like to eat. However, My personal favorites are Sabatinis and the Crown Grill. I don't eat seafood, but I've heard amazing feedback regarding The Catch.

Q: Should I make specialty dining reservations before embarking on the cruise ship?

A: Yes, availability will be extremely limited at these restaurants if you wait to book while you're on the cruise. Reservations can be made on the Princess App prior to embarkation. If you purchased a premiere package, one of the best benefits is unlimited specialty dining visits. Please note that the specialty restaurants operate on a shorter daily schedule and are extremely popular. To avoid disappointment, it's important to make a reservation for these restaurants early.

Q: In general, what is your opinion of the food included in your cruise fare?

A: It's fantastic, you absolutely do not have to buy any additional specialty dining restaurants if you're on a budget. Part of the reason we chose Princess is for there incredible food. They offer a wide variety of food options at the buffet and all over the ship. There's something for everyone. The main dining room food is especially delicious.

Q: Do I need a Passport for this cruise?

A: Yes.

Q: Is there a visa requirement?

A: Visa requirements change often. Visas may be required based on the traveler's nationality and country of origin. Please do your own research on visa requirements. Princess and Scrappy Tails Crafts are not liable/responsible for potential embarkation/disembarkation issues related to passports, visas, immunizations or covid vaccines.

Q: Are there immunizations and covid vaccination requirements?

A: Please research these topics on your own for all the countries and islands we are visiting. Princess has advisory information on their website that addresses this topic and their recommendations. It is ultimately the travelers responsibility to inform themselves and decide if they want to travel on a confined ship where illnesses like COVID, food borne viruses and Norovirus could be an issue without immunizations and vaccinations.

Q: What is a MUSTER Drill? Do I have to participate?

A: All passengers are required by international maritime law to familiarize themselves with the safety features on the ship and participate in the MUSTER drill. The drill consists of watching a safety video on the  Princess App or on your cabin tv the day of embarkation. Then, you must physically find and scan your medallion at your assigned MUSTER station located somewhere on the ship. This station is where you must go in the very unlikely event that requires passengers to safely evacuate the ship in the case of an emergency. Safety swim vests are available in every cabin, but are no longer required for the MUSTER drill itself. Children vests will be made available in all cabins with a child passenger. Children enrolled in child/teen activity programs during a potential evacuation will be brought to their parents at their respective MUSTER stations.
