Butterfly Pop up Stands

I pulled out the brightest distress oxide inks I have to create these vibrant watercolor pop up cards. I used a variety of new Scrappy Tails products including the awesome new "A7 Pop up Stand"!
These cards can fold flat for mailing, and the best part is, there's a mechanism built into the stand that allows your cards to pop right out of the envelope with a rubber band!

Video Tutorial

My video tutorial shares how to build these pop up cards (they're super easy and take less than 2 minutes to glue together)! It also shows how to watercolor these gorgeous butterfly stamps using Distress Oxide inks!

In my video, I share how to use the new "A7 Pop up Stand" in two different ways. The first way is gluing back to back die cuts to the front and back of the stand. I demonstrated this technique on my first card.

I placed the two smaller butterflies from the "Heartfelt Wings" 6x8 stamp set onto an intricate oval I cut using different dies from our "A7 Book Oval Add-on" die set. Then, I glued the oval to the front of the assembled pop up stand.

To balance the weight on the front of the stand, I glued another decorative oval to the back of the stand. I chose not to add more butterflies, but you definitely can if you want!

I had two extra watercolored butterflies, and another decorative oval, so I decided to glue them onto a white A7 embossed card panel. Below the oval, I added a "Sending Love" sentiment. All of the sentiments I used for these cards come from the same "Heartfelt Wings" stamp set. I used the coordinating dies, to cut out the butterflies and the sentiments.

For my next two cards, I had to showcase the giant butterfly that's included in the Heartfelt Wings stamp set.

To see how I watercolored these butterflies, be sure to check out my video tutorial above. Basically, I stamped 4 of the same butterflies with Blueprint Sketch, Peacock Feathers, and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide inks. While the ink was still semi-wet I took a damp paint brush and pulled the pigment from the stamped lines to color the remaining white areas. This created a faded watercolor look that's just gorgeous! I also splattered each butterfly with the same inks to add to that artsy look.

I bent the centers of the butterflies to add more dimension and allow the card to better fold flat. I connected the four butterflies by gluing the tops of their wings side by side. Once dried, I attached the butterfly circle inside the pop up stand.

The stand was splattered with the same Distress Oxide inks I used to paint the butterflies. Again, it added to that artsy style. Finally, I added a "With Sympathy" sentiment to finish this card.

To see this card "pop" out of the envelope with a rubber band, check out my video tutorial above!

I created the yellow butterfly card the exact same way. This time, I used Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide inks to watercolor my butterflies.

That finishes off my cards today! I hope you found them inspiring. I'm excited to see your beautiful pop up butterfly cards! Thanks for stopping by!
