Using Dies to Create Your Own Custom Stencils

Hi friends!  Kristina here.  I'm super excited for my first blog post as a guest design team member for Scrappy Tails Crafts!  My card today features two products from the brand new Spring Fling release.  I'm using the adorable Sweet Bear stamp set and the Flower Vase Pop Up Card dies

I started with a piece of Bristol smooth cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".  I then used ink blending tools with Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick and Victorian Velvet distress inks.  Once I had a smooth blend, I splattered the panel with water and dabbed it off.

While it was drying, I took XOXO die from the Flower Vase Pop Up dies and cut my own stencil from heavy cardstock.  I applied a clear glitter/texture paste through the diy stencil on the blended background.  I set aside to dry.

Next I stamped the bear onto the same Bristol smooth cardstock using a watercolor safe black ink. I grabbed a couple of colors of Zig Real brush markers, a waterbrush and got to watercoloring the bear. Once it was dry I fussy cut the bear.  The Sweet Bear stamp set does have a matching die set, but I haven't added it to my collection yet.  I also stamped a sentiment and trimmed it down with a banner end.

Back to the background, I splattered it with white paint and a black shimmer paint.  After it was dry, I added it onto a top fold, A2 sized white card base.  I added foam tape to the back of the bear and placed him on the card panel.  I used a little liquid glue and tucked in the sentiment strip to the left of the bear.
With that, my card is complete! I hope I was able to inspire you today with this cute Valentine's Day card! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!
